473nm, 50mW Blue Laser Source System Overview

The high-tech laser diode source solutions deliver the industry-best laser reliability and performance, in a complete and compact plug-and-play system. The OBIS Series laser source systems cover the wavelength spectrum from 375nm (Ultraviolet) to 980nm (near-Infrared), and are perfect for flow cytometry and fluorescence spectroscopy applications.

OBIS LX/LS lasers deliver high optical power with low noise, and high beam quality. The flexibility of the plug-and-play system allows users to rapidly integrate the laser system, reducing set-up time and time-to-market in OEM applications, and reducing cost. The highly-functional OBIS LS/LX Systems are ideal for scientific, laboratory, and spectroscopic applications.

Complete Turn-Key Blue Laser Source System

The complete OBIS system includes: the laser head and remote controller, power supply, interconnect cable, and the output fiber with the high-reliability extended-life output interface. The fiber output face is angled at 8º to prevent back-reflection. Since it designed for enhanced long-term reliability, it is not compatible with standard FC/APC fiber connectors. The laser system is controlled remotely via USB or RS232, and the PC control software is included.

The OBIS system is remarkably simple to set up on the bench top: connect the power cable, the I/O cable from the controller to the laser head, and the USB cable from the controller to the computer.

This video above summarizes the process, including mounting the laser head on the optional machined heatsink with integrated cooling fan. Control inputs are located on the laser head for OEM applications where the laser head is directly controlled with custom software.

The system includes features to ensure a long operating lifetime. The key switch prevents unauthorized use, and the interlock connection allows a safety switch to be wired. The OBIS remote controller includes front panel indicators: Fault, Laser Ready, and Laser On. Accommodation is provided for driving a cooling fan, and for simplified temperature stabilization the laser head can be mounted to the optional preconfigured fan-heatsink.

Operating Flexibility with Multiple Modulation Modes

The laser system can be operated in CW mode, or modulated with analog, digital, or combined analog/digital signals. The laser can be modulated to full-off light output, ensuring no photons are emitted from the source. LS modules can be modulated to full-off output using the digital modulation mode, while the LX modules can be modulated to full-off using the analog modulation mode with a Blanking feature enabled.
