830nm Laser Diode Module from Lumentum

The new high-brightness 2486-L4 series laser diodes offer up to 2 W from a 60-μm fiber into 0.22 numerical aperture (NA)—ideal for thermal printing and other applications that require high brightness and a long life. The dramatic increase in output power, from the 60-micron fiber, also enables new technologies such as flexography, illumination, and several material processing applications.

Continuous Design Evolution Delivers A Highly Reliable Device

The L4-Series fiber-coupled laser diodes are the natural evolution of the highly successful L2 and L3 laser module packages. These devices were designed to be cost effective a wide range of applications. Key applications include computer-to-plate printing, flexographic printing, and graphic arts.

Heat Sinking for Lumentum L4 Packaged High Power Lasers
The L4-2486-006 package was designed to allow the use of either air cooling or water cooled thermal management. To avoid device degradation due to run-away heat build-up, the case temperature should be actively controlled and kept in a safe operating temperature window. A proper heat sink for the diode laser on a thermal radiator will greatly enhance the life of the laser.

Laser Lab Source offers a pre-configured heat sink which has been optimized for the L4 package. It comes pre-drilled with the correct mounting hole placement and has a TEC based cooling plate with a small fan to remove the waste heat. In addition to the mount, the current source and TEC controller unit which is compatible with the 12W laser is also available.
