These Nichia laser diodes, model number NDV4316, feature an optical output power of up to 120mW in CW mode. These devices offer single transverse mode of operation with a Gaussian far field beam profile. Their center peak wavelength is 405nm with a plus or minus 5nm wavelength tolerance. They are shipped in a standard 5.6mm (TO-18) can package and are mounted floating. They have a monitor photo-diode and zener diode internal to the package. These devices from Nichia are used in emerging applications in fluorescence spectroscopy as well as multiple emerging medical applications. They are the highest power native laser diodes with a single mode output at this wavelength.
Safety and Operation
Laser light causes damage the human eyes and skin. Never expose the eye or skin to any direct laser diode light or through an optical lens. When handling laser diodes, the user and anyone exposed to the laser radiation should wear appropriate safety glasses to prevent laser light entering the eye. This includes reflections of the laser light entering the eye. Focused laser beams which are propagated through optical instruments will increase the chance of eye hazards. These 405nm laser diodes are classified according to class 4 of IEC60825-1 and 21 CFR Part 1040.10 safety standards. It is absolutely necessary to take overall safety measures against user's modules, equipment and systems into which Nichia lasers are incorporated and/or integrated.
