405nm, 100mW Laser Source System Overview
This plug-and-play laser source leverages Coherent's extensive diode laser experience to deliver high quality laser light, with best-in-class reliability and performance. The violet 405nm fiber-coupled laser diode source system is available at 50mW and 100mW ex-fiber output power.
The plug-and-play flexibility allows users to integrate the laser system very quickly, thereby reducing set up time, time-to-market in OEM applications, and overall cost. OBIS LX/LS lasers deliver superior power, low RMS noise, and higher beam quality that are key requirements for any laser source, but especially in scientific, laboratory, and spectroscopic applications.
Complete Turn-Key Violet Laser Diode System
The complete OBIS system includes: the laser head and remote controller, power supply, interconnect cable, and the output fiber with the high-reliability extended-life output interface. The fiber output face is angled at 8º to prevent back-reflection; the fiber output interface is designed for ultra high reliability, and is not compatible with standard FC/APC fiber connectors.
The laser system is controlled remotely via USB or RS232, and the PC control software is included.
The OBIS system is remarkably simple to set up on the bench top: connect the power cable, the I/O cable from the controller to the laser head, and the USB cable from the controller to the computer.
Quick Start Guide
This video above summarizes the process, including mounting the laser head on the optional heatsink. Control inputs are located on the laser head for OEM applications where the laser head is directly controlled with custom software.
The OBIS controller integrates multiple safety features to ensure a long operating lifetime and to help protect the user during laser operation. The interlock connection allows an external safety switch to be implemented so the laser is operated only when it is safe. The front panel of the OBIS controller includes a Fault indicator, as well as a Laser Ready and Laser On indicator. A connector is included for driving a cooling fan, and the OBIS head can be mounted to the OBIS heatsink for easily integrated temperature stabilization.
Operating Flexibility with Multiple Modulation Modes
The OBIS laser system can be operated in CW mode, or modulated in multiple modes: analog signals, digital signals, and combined analog/digital signals. The laser can be modulated to full-off output, ensuring no photons are emitted. LS modules can be modulated to full-off output using the digital modulation mode. The LX modules can be modulated to full-off using the analog modulation mode with a Blanking Enabled feature.

All of the OBIS LS and LX laser heads are identical in form factor, and can be freely exchanged in OEM and end-user applications when the wavelength requirements change. The super compact laser head, controller, and power supply are easily configurable on the R & D test bench, laboratory, or OEM environment.
Laser System Options and Availability
The turn-key OBIS laser sources are available in a wide range of wavelengths and output powers, either fiber-coupled or with a free-space output, and multiple sources can be simultaneously operated from a single computer. When application requirements change, laser heads of different wavelengths are effortlessly interchanged on the bench.
A range of multi-laser accessories are available, including two different six-laser controller models, and a completely integrated five-laser system that incorporates controllers, modulation inputs, and thermal management.
