445nm, 200mW Laser Source System Overview

This plug-and-play laser source leverages Coherent's extensive diode laser experience to deliver high quality laser diode light, with industry-leading reliability and performance. The violet 445nm fiber-coupled laser diode source system is available at 45mW and 200mW ex-fiber output power.

The flexibility of the plug-and-play system allows users to rapidly integrate the laser system, reducing set-up time and time-to-market in OEM applications, and cutting overall cost. OBIS LX/LS lasers deliver high optical power, low RMS noise, and high beam quality that are key requirements for laser source applications. The OBIS Systems are highly functional and ideal for scientific, laboratory, and spectroscopic applications.

Operating Flexibility with Multiple Modulation Modes

The OBIS laser system can be operated in CW mode, or modulated in multiple modes: analog signals, digital signals, and combined analog/digital signals. The laser can be modulated to full-off output, ensuring no photons are emitted: LS modules can be modulated to full-off output using the digital modulation mode; the LX modules can be modulated to full-off using the analog modulation mode with a Blanking feature.

Complete Turn-Key System

The complete OBIS system includes: the laser head and remote controller, power supply, interconnect cable, and the output fiber with the high-reliability extended-life output interface. The fiber output face is angled at 8º to prevent back-reflection, and since it designed for ultra high reliability, it is not compatible with standard FC/APC fiber connectors.

The laser system is controlled remotely via USB or RS232, and the PC control software is included.

This video above summarizes the process, including mounting the laser head on the optional heatsink. Control inputs are located on the laser head for OEM applications where the laser head is directly controlled with custom software.

The OBIS controller includes safety and performance features to ensure a long service lifetime, and to help protect the user while operating the laser. The external interlock connection allows a safety switch to be wired, and the key switch prevents unauthorized use. The front panel of the OBIS controller includes a Fault indicator, as well as a Laser Ready and Laser On indicator. Accommodation is included for driving an external cooling fan, and the OBIS head can be mounted to the OBIS fan-heatsink for temperature stabilization.

Flow Cytometry and Fluorescence Spectroscopy Applications

The OBIS LS and LX laser heads are all identical in form factor, and can be readily swapped in OEM and end-user applications when the analytical wavelength requirements change. The super compact laser head, remote controller, and power supply are easily arranged on the R & D test bench, laboratory, or OEM environment.

Wide Selection of Laser System Options

The turn-key OBIS laser sources are available in a wide range of wavelengths and output powers, either fiber-coupled or with a free-space output, and multiple sources can be simultaneously operated from a single computer. When application requirements change, laser heads of different wavelengths are effortlessly interchanged on the bench.

A range of multi-laser accessories are available: a precision machined heatsink with attached cooling fan, two different six-laser controller models, and a completely integrated five-laser system that incorporates laser controllers, modulation inputs, and thermal management.
